The new first black face of Dior known as Rihanna was in New York in a daring Pascal Millet ensemble. The pieces are pretty much that of a pantsuit but it includes an in-your-face accessory in the form of a pale pink stole. If I could guess any reason as to why Rihanna chose to wear this it was definitely because of the stole and the color! Rihanna doesn’t do basic and if I looked like her I wouldn’t either! The Bajan beauty completed the look with nude Louboutin pumps. I just have one problem: slicked back hair. It’s got to be my least favorite hairstyle on all women.
Jessica Alba was in New York for a Morgan Stanley conference, apparently, she’s into finance possibly? Whatever, all I know is the Narciso Rodriguez ensemble she wore to the gathering was everything and more. It was sleek, yet, fashion forward and the peach color is a true standout from the normal beiges, whites, and blacks that are the go-to for a typical professional look. Also, the white handbag accented the coat perfectly. This should be a lesson for designers that create clothing for the working woman; step outside of the normal neutral color palette and experiment the way Narciso Rodriguez has.
I can never get over the fact that Jennifer Lopez is in her mid-forties and looks as fabulous as she does! While filming at Jimmy Kimmel, she wore a pretty sheath dress by Preen and Casadei pumps. Normally, I am not too fond of a matchy-matchy look but this dress wouldn’t have been complete without those red heels. Also, I love when Jennifer has her hair in those vintage 1960s hairstyles; she has a unique bone structure that can pull off any hairstyle and, of course, she had her signature smoky eye and nude lips as the finishing touches.
I love the seventies! It was such a glamorous and free time especially for black people in the entertainment industry. We were truly flourishing in that decade in the most positive ways. But one thing that is for true is anything went when it came to fashion. Like Sly Stone and his then wife, Kathy Silva (pictured above) when they got married in matching gold Halston outfits. He wore what looks to be a jumpsuit and a cape and she looked increasing beautiful in a long gold dress. They married in 1971 during one of Sly’s concerts at Madison Square Garden in New York. Despite their union only lasting a few years, their wedding outfits are engraved in vintage fashion history as 1970’s luxury at it’s finest.
First of all, I hate that my industry is completely driven by money. When I was first hired it seemed to be a job that focused on customer service. I’m not too crazy about customer service, either. However, once I was hired it was sales, sales, and more sales, bitch! I don’t know a lot about capitalism, but I know for sure that I am an enabler of capitalistic gain. However, I am an unwilling enabler. One more thing I hate is the customer service skills we are groomed to use are a sick form of reverse psychology to make the customer believe that we are interested in building a relationship to only get whatever it is that we want from them. Aren’t these the same skills that Terrence Howard used in Hustle and Flow? I hate that I feel trapped in the customer service field because I am quickly becoming aware of the fact that I hate being a people pleaser for unappreciative people and half the people I come into contact with want to spit in my face because I’m black. Yeah, there is kind of a radar for that kind of thing. Especially, when I greet my white customer and they refuse to acknowledge my presence. My coworker was even called the “n word” and what happened? A sit down was held with the customer to ensure that he respects everyone. Everyone being yellow-skinned and darker. I can’t wait until I’m an established blogger/writer. Which is why I am really focused on growing and building my blog because my happiness matters so I have started a GoFund Me account (http://www.gofundme.com/careerfunds) to jumpstart my career and relocation to an area with media opportunities. I decided to go this route because I am a full-time student and part-time employee.
Taylor Swift will be the godmother to Jaime King’s unborn bundle of beauty and joy. However, that’s not why I’ve chosen to write about this sudden bill of responsibility that has been bestowed upon Taylor. It’s because this beautiful blonde tends to collect celebrity friends the way Elizabeth Taylor collected husbands. While at the Grammy’s earlier this year, she was photographed chumming it up with Kanye West; that’s practically a blood oath of friendship in the entertainment world! But, Kanye, really? Isn’t that the man who publicly embarrassed you so he could proclaim his love for Beyonce before he tried to fill the void with a talentless Armenian with an ass so huge it looks like it’s been stung by African bees? The same man you constantly talked about for ruining your moment as your accepted your silver moon man? I’m rambling! The point is Taylor Swift isn’t selective when it comes to her “friends”. I believe that she builds these relationships so she can have a hand in every circle. She’s in good with everyone from the models to the rappers and it makes me wonder is “America’s Music Sweetheart” the sleekest top player in the game?
